You are viewing the most recent 20 entries November 24th, 200904:16 pm: boggle moment!
The dog catcher (long story involving an adorably dopey stray) entered the front door, walked along the short hallway leading straight to the back door and outside. He got the dog roped (easily) and then said, "So you're an artist, are ya?" After boggling slightly, I said eruditely, "Whah?" I couldn't understand how he'd picked that up -- I wasn't even wearing black clothes!* So I thought about what he'd seen in the hallway; a tall display shelf full of ceramics; a huge unframed canvas hanging on the wall and - if he'd peeked through the archway leading to the house proper - a framed print and a charcoal portrait hanging up in the rest of the hallway. Right. Okay. No photos to speak of. I suppose that's a bit peculiar; I do have photos around, but he didn't see them as they were out of his line of sight. So I said, "What gave it away?" Apparently it was the huge canvas. He wanted to know if I did pottery too, but that's my mum's work. :-) Observant guy, and very cute too. ;-) (*This is a well known indicator to anyone who has been through art school or knows professional artists, lol!) November 4th, 200905:09 pm: Proposal of topics for art tutes
I haven't filtered this post yet in case some more people want to hop on the list -- it's just a proposal so far anyway. What I have here is 5 topics that I think might be handy to cover: 1. Feet (I'm starting at the bottom!) - I think feet get short shrift in figure drawing. Generally, I think people are scared of them so I'm certain this will be useful. 2. Hands - for much the same reasons as feet. Although hands are much harder to fudge and hide than feet! People can get into real tangles with hands, and yet we have much easier access to reference -- we don't have to take off our shoes to observe them. 3. Elbows - I think they are misunderstood, anyone agree? I can partner this with knees if that's needed too. 4. Neck and shoulders - a good drawing can fall over on its neck and shoulders if they aren't structured properly. 5. Nose - I wanted to do a feature of the face, but I'm flexible. If there are any other suggestions let me know! I'm sure that you can all draw genitalia, so I'm not going there... ;-) Hair is an option. Or ears?ETA: Hair it is! All comments welcome, and as in the previous post -- if you want to go on the filtered list comment here and let me know.
November 2nd, 200911:31 am: Repair shop-cum-tutorial
How many artisties would be interested in me posting up some tutes on figure drawing? Maybe portraiture as well? Also, would a 'repair shop' be useful? ETA: Since there is a grouplet gathering in the comments here, I will use that as a basis for a filtered flist when this kicks off -- yes, I think I'll be designing a 5 post series to begin with and see of that's of any use to interested people. If you see this post and are interested, even if only to watch, pop a comment up and I will include you. Edit the 2nd: There is a mix of artists and art fans responding, so don't be shy if you aren't actually drawing anything -- I'll include anyone interested if you comment here.

I had promised to post this fic up at my journal a while ago. I have no more excuses for delaying - my last assignment went in on Friday - so here it is at last, with links and everything. :-) I'm think of adding some illustrations too, and I have some cute scenes to choose from... 01:00 am: Anybody heard from Odo or Chaz?
I know odogoddess is not well -- has anyone on the flist heard an update over the last few days? I'm getting a bit twitchy...
October 26th, 200911:42 pm: So wow!
I have just found out that I was reading steampunk when I was 12 years old! Good gravy, am I cool, or wot? Wikipedia, source of all Truth (just like the tabloids)I was the mostest biggest Moorcock freak at 12. *geeks shamelessly* Also, does The Time Bandits cut it as cinematic Steampunk? *thinks Terry Gilliam IS a steampunk* Now, I must go to sleep because I am hungry, and we all know where that can lead at midnight.
October 10th, 200911:33 pm: Nobel Peace Prize for Obama
I heard about the NPP earlier, but I also watched the report on the news tonight and it was interesting. It showed some vox pop footage of people's reactions in the USA, and not a few of them were bemused and wondering what the man had done to earn the Nobel Prize. I'm sure this is a case of a prophet never being accepted in his home town -- in other words; familiarity breeds contempt. On the world stage Barack Obama has had a huge effect. We could point to the peace talks, or the outstretched hand to Iran, or the simple act of stepping up to accept responsibility for the worldwide economic crisis -- and there is no doubt much more I could cite if I took the time to delve. More than that he has allowed the other developed nations to take a breath and relax, dammit! -- waiting for the inevitable mistakes from Bush's administration was terrifying. Be proud, all you guys stateside; you have a truly great leader, and when given the opportunity to make change in the world he most certainly will. Let's hear it for Barack!
October 7th, 200910:58 am: Has anyone finished reading the latest Gabaldon?
I'm fizzing after reading 'An Echo in the Bone'! I can't *believe* she did that, aaarrrgggghhhhh! Must. Write. Fannish. Equivalent. Okay, major spoiler going behind the cutses: ( Read more... )
10:35 am: And the Winner is:
If you hadn't gleaned this bit of information from the Netses yet -- Team Snitch has won the Snarry Games, woot! Yeah, I know I was on Team Cauldron, but seriously, in a two horse race do you really have losers? I don't remember how many points were in it, but I would guess a single digit number. The Games is now the repository of, well, a big load of great fic and art. If you haven't delved recently and need some fannish fixes, get over and wallow in the Snarries: Link to Snarry Games...and don't forget to comment if you like what you see!
September 18th, 200912:58 pm: Bad language on a beautiful day
It's one of those fuckin' sweet spring days. With the sun shinin' and the fresh, ticklin' breeze on your face. It's just fuckin' awesome. Feels fuckin' good to be fuckin' alive, y'know? As long as I don't fuckin' dwell on any of the fuckin' shit goin' on in my life right now, I'll be sweet. Woo-fuckin-hoo. Tags: non-virtual environment
September 16th, 200912:17 am: Why I love the Net
Because when you can't sleep and have no concentration for reading a book, you can lob onto the Net and trawl through all sorts of diverting stuff! PS. I do not want to be in my eyes' shoes in the morning.
September 8th, 200911:52 am: Swamped with the fic
Slipping into Fannish Loser category again due to inability to keep up with snarry_games monumental amount of ficcage posting. I don't know whether to give up or wait until the posting is finished and spend a week catching up. It simply would not be fair to not read and feedback all the writers (especially my own team, dammit) who made such a massive effort to get their work ready in time for the Games. I need a time table to keep me on track.
